Days after a teenager was fatally shot at a restaurant in Amar Colony, southeast Delhi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Harsh Indora revealed that efforts are ongoing to try the main accused, a minor, as an adult in court. The victim, a 17-year-old student named Sai, sustained critical injuries after a confrontation with a group of young men at the eatery. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries after a six-day battle in the hospital.
Authorities have detained three of the suspects involved in the incident, while a search is in progress for the fourth individual linked to the registered vehicle. DCP Indora confirmed that the primary suspect, who fired at the victim, is a minor and is currently in police custody. The altercation reportedly began over a seating dispute at the restaurant, escalating into a violent confrontation resulting in the teenager being shot twice in the head.
In addition to the apprehended minor, two other boys fled the scene following the shooting. The minor suspect was captured within a day of the crime, with the other two culprits arrested on May 30. The police are actively searching for the fourth accused, associated with the vehicle registration, expressing optimism about his imminent apprehension.
DCP Indora emphasized that steps are being taken to ensure that the primary accused, despite being a minor, faces trial as an adult. The law enforcement official confirmed the seizure of the weapon and the vehicle allegedly used in the crime, with investigations ongoing to determine the source of the firearm. Meanwhile, the victim’s grandmother has appealed for justice, advocating for the punishment of the entire family of the accused.
Sai’s father previously called for a similar fate for the culprit as those involved in encounters in Uttar Pradesh under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s administration. Echoing this sentiment, the teenager’s aunt urged for decisive action against the accused, emphasizing the family’s devastation and the necessity for justice to prevail.
