Patna, Aug 17 (IANS) A tribute meeting was organised at the RJD office in Patna on Monday to mark the 19th Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Mountain Man Dashrath Manjhi.

Bihar Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, along with several RJD leaders and workers, attended the programme. Many people from Dalit and Mahadalit communities also participated.

After the programme, Tejashwi Yadav demanded that the Bihar government install a statue of Dashrath Manjhi in Patna and establish an ashram in his name.

He also attacked the state government over alleged corruption and scams in Bihar. Referring to the alleged dustbin scam, he claimed irregularities had surfaced in several other matters as well, but questioned why no effective action had been taken against those responsible.

He alleged that people involved in corruption were receiving protection from those in power, resulting in inaction against them.

The RJD leader also questioned the government’s financial position, claiming that the state was struggling to pay salaries and pensions. “This government has become completely poor. The government is not able to pay salaries and is not able to give pensions either,” Yadav said.

Regarding the August 19 Raj Bhavan march, Tejashwi Yadav said the protest would be an open march and appealed to people to participate in large numbers. He said the RJD would raise issues concerning students and the recent AK‑47‑related incident, which he described as unacceptable.

According to him, RJD leaders and workers will march to Raj Bhavan, meet the Governor and submit a memorandum outlining their demands. He urged people to join the march in large numbers.

The AK‑47 rifle firing incident occurred during a student protest in Siwan. Tejashwi Yadav highlighted the incident on social media and also submitted a memorandum to Bihar’s Director General of Police, Vinay Kumar, seeking action against senior officials. However, the Bihar police suspended only a constable who was seen in the video firing the AK‑47 rifle during the protest.
