Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, has been granted bail in a case dating back to the COVID-19 period. He surrendered before the MP/MLA Court in Patna, where his bail plea was accepted. The case relates to protests and sit-ins organized during the pandemic to highlight public grievances.
Tejashwi Yadav mentioned that the FIR against him was filed by the administration in response to his demonstrations during the crisis. He emphasized that as a public representative, he organized protests to address issues affecting the public, particularly the challenges faced by migrant workers during the pandemic.
Expressing his views after securing bail, Tejashwi Yadav criticized the government for not adequately assisting migrant workers during the crisis. He stressed the responsibility of the Opposition to raise concerns and ensure that the government hears the voices of affected individuals. The RJD leader condemned the administration for taking action against leaders advocating for public issues, stating that it contradicts democratic principles.
Tejashwi Yadav also criticized the government’s policies, particularly in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call to conserve energy and reduce petroleum product usage. He viewed such appeals as indicative of policy failures, referencing a similar appeal made during the demonetization period and questioning its effectiveness. Tejashwi Yadav highlighted that decisions taken by the Prime Minister in the past have not necessarily benefited the common people.
