Patna, July 30 (IANS) With polling concluded in the Bankipur Assembly by-election, political parties have begun staking a claim to victory.
Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, expressed confidence that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) would emerge victorious when votes are counted on August 3.
Speaking to reporters after reaching the RJD office, Tejashwi Yadav said the outcome of the by-election would surprise many. He asserted that RJD candidate Rekha Gupta had received support from voters across caste, religious, and social groups.
“The people of Bankipur are voting for the Lantern this time. The Lantern will shine in Bankipur. We have received votes from every ward and every polling booth,” he remarked.
The RJD National Working President added that feedback received by the party from across the constituency indicated the RJD was ahead in every ward.
According to him, voters had united behind the party to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He alleged that despite holding the Bankipur seat for more than three decades, the BJP had failed to ensure adequate development in the constituency.
Tejashwi Yadav claimed public dissatisfaction with the ruling party had translated into support for the RJD and its candidate.
“The BJP is facing a crushing defeat in Bankipur this time, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal will emerge victorious. Our candidate, Rekha Gupta, is garnering support from all sections of society. The results on August 3 will be in our favour,” he said.
The Bankipur by-election witnessed a triangular contest involving BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha, RJD candidate Rekha Gupta, and Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor.
Tejashwi Yadav’s remarks reflect the RJD’s assessment of the polling outcome.
However, the actual result will be known only after the counting of votes on August 3, when election authorities announce the official outcome of the Bankipur Assembly by-election.
