The Telangana Police have placed State BJP President N. Ramchander Rao under house arrest after the party announced a protest against the Congress following the defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha. The NDA is set to launch a nationwide protest campaign against the Opposition INDIA bloc over the issue. Protests will be held at district headquarters nationwide, led by the BJP Mahila Morcha.
State BJP Chief Ramchander Rao expressed disappointment, stating that the Congress has betrayed the women of the country. He mentioned plans for a protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence, but was prevented from participating as he was house-arrested by the police. Rao criticized the Congress for their undemocratic actions and for obstructing the BJP’s right to protest.
The defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, which aimed to provide 33% reservation for women in Parliament, has sparked a political clash between the ruling NDA and the Opposition INDIA bloc. Despite receiving 298 votes in favor, the Bill fell short of the required two-thirds majority. This defeat has led to accusations from the NDA against the Opposition for blocking a significant reform for women’s representation in legislative bodies.
