The Telangana Cabinet, under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has given the green light for conducting municipal elections in the state. The decision, made at a historic Cabinet meeting in Medaram, includes holding elections for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations with expired terms. These elections will cover a total of 2,996 wards and divisions, following recent finalizations of reservations for different categories.
For the first time, the Cabinet convened outside Hyderabad, specifically in Medaram, ahead of the Medaram Jatara tribal fair. During the meeting, Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Seethakka, and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy briefed the media on various decisions taken. Discussions included approving land allotments to government institutions and planning for the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu event in 2027.
The Cabinet also deliberated on development projects such as the temple circuit from Basar to Bhadrachalam and allocated funds amounting to Rs. 2,787 crore for Hyderabad Metro Phase-II A and B. Additionally, considerations were made regarding the state government’s takeover of Phase-I from L&T. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced plans to organize Medaram Jatara akin to the Kumbh Mela, emphasizing the festival’s historical significance and the state’s commitment to its development.
