Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has revealed plans for the Musi Rejuvenation Project, with estimates set to be finalized by March 31 this year. The Asian Development Bank has agreed to provide a loan of Rs 4,000 crore for the project. Additionally, the Central government has approved the development of the Gandhi Sarovar under this initiative.
Revanth Reddy mentioned the construction of Bapu Ghat at the confluence of the Musi and Eesa rivers, where Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed. He emphasized the importance of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and announced intentions to present it to all MLAs for their input. The Chief Minister highlighted actions taken to address pollution in Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs.
The CM discussed historical flood solutions implemented by the Nizam government in 1908, emphasizing the significance of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar in meeting Hyderabad’s water needs. He shared insights from visits to global cities and their river basin management strategies, aiming to ensure clean water flow in the Musi River year-round. Revanth Reddy also outlined relocation efforts in other states for river cleanups.
Plans for the Musi project include the development of the Musi river basin, with initiatives such as relocating families, utilizing Godavari waters, and promoting religious harmony through the construction of various religious structures. The CM addressed opposition criticisms, asserting the project’s importance and defending against personal attacks. He expressed determination to combat pollution in the Musi River and ensure sustainable water resources for the region.
