Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged the establishment of top-notch infrastructure at the proposed Young India Sports University and the upgrade of key stadiums to nurture Olympic-caliber athletes from the state. In a recent meeting with sports officials, the focus was on furnishing the Young India Sports University with world-class amenities and enhancing sports grounds for various disciplines.
The Chief Minister emphasized the necessity of equipping the Sports University with all essential facilities to train athletes for Olympic success. He also mandated the refurbishment of the Gachibowli Outdoor Stadium, construction of an indoor stadium, university complex, hostel buildings, and sports grounds for diverse disciplines within the stadium premises. Architectural designs for the proposed constructions were reviewed, and the Chief Minister provided feedback to officials.
Furthermore, plans were discussed to position Telangana as a potential host for major sporting events like the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games, aiming to boost the performance of Telangana athletes at the global level. The modernization of Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy Stadium, LB Stadium, and Saroornagar Stadium to meet future training and competition needs was also on the agenda.
Sports and Youth Services Minister Vakiti Srihari and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Srinivasa Reddy were present at the meeting, along with other officials and dignitaries. Last year, the Telangana government introduced a sports policy to elevate the state as a prominent sports destination and establish it as a national and international sports hub.
