The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) under the Telangana government has offered job opportunities to 16 transgenders. Among them, eleven trans women and five trans men have joined HYDRAA, known for its efforts in clearing encroachments in and around Hyderabad. These new employees expressed gratitude for the job, stating that it has brought a positive change in their lives and boosted their self-esteem.
The transgenders, as per an official statement, are committed to their roles and are actively involved in clearing encroachments on water bodies, government lands, and public parks in Telangana. Despite facing challenges, they fearlessly carry out their duties and play a crucial part in safeguarding public assets. For them, working at HYDRAA signifies more than just a job; it represents a newfound identity and source of pride.
The transgender team members have significantly contributed to protecting government land and lakes in various areas. They also engage in tasks like public persuasion, conflict resolution, and fostering cooperation between officials and the community. Recognized for their empathy and dedication, they are now financially supporting their families and experiencing improved societal acceptance.
The transgenders highlighted the transformation in how they are perceived, noting that they are now respected while on duty, in contrast to past experiences of ridicule and rejection. Tanshi Rai emphasized the importance of the opportunity provided by HYDRAA, showcasing the potential of transgender individuals in any field. The supportive environment at HYDRAA, where everyone is treated equally, has empowered them to excel in their responsibilities.
