Telangana has emerged as the top state in India for paddy procurement during the Rabi season, with Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, announcing that the state has already procured 60 lakh tonnes of paddy. This surpasses the procurement levels of other states, such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Kerala.
Reddy highlighted that Telangana’s paddy procurement operation is considered one of the most successful in the country, with over 60 lakh tonnes already procured. The state has positioned itself as the leading national player in Yasangi (Rabi) paddy procurement.
Describing Telangana as the backbone of India’s food grain procurement system, Reddy stated that the state accounts for nearly 60% of all paddy procured in India during the ongoing Yasangi season. By the conclusion of procurement operations, Telangana is expected to contribute around 75% of the country’s total Yasangi paddy procurement.
Reddy emphasized that Telangana is significantly ahead of other states in paddy procurement and is the primary supplier of rice to the Food Corporation of India under the Central Pool mechanism. The ongoing procurement program is lauded as a historic achievement, showcasing unprecedented levels of procurement, transportation, payments, and logistical mobilization.
