The Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, revealed that Telangana will be the venue for the Khelo India Youth Games 2026. This will mark the second time in three years that a Southern Indian state hosts the event, with Tamil Nadu hosting in 2024 and Bihar in 2025.
Dr. Mandaviya highlighted that Telangana’s selection aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of decentralizing national events. The state’s infrastructure and enthusiasm make it a fitting host for the Games, expected to draw around 8000 athletes, officials, and support staff.
Anticipating high-quality performances, Dr. Mandaviya noted the timing of the Games post-Asian Games, expecting athletes to be in prime condition. The upcoming edition in Telangana is seen as an opportunity for aspiring athletes to witness their role models in action.
Maharashtra, Haryana, and Rajasthan claimed the top three spots in the 2025 Khelo India Youth Games, with Bihar and Telangana finishing 15th and 13th, respectively. In the 2024 edition, Tamil Nadu secured the second position, while Telangana stood at 6th place.
The Bihar edition of the Games featured 28 sports, with medals awarded in 27 disciplines and e-sports introduced as a demonstration event. Notably, KIYG 2025 witnessed the establishment of 26 records, including national youth records in weightlifting and meet records in athletics.
