Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar showcased the state’s commitment to electric vehicles by arriving at the Assembly in an electric car. Accompanied by MLA Danam Nagender, the minister emphasized the government’s EV policy aimed at reducing pollution and preserving the environment.
Under the policy, the government has granted a full exemption from road tax and registration fees for electric vehicles, amounting to around Rs 1,000 crore in exemptions. To further support EV adoption, the government plans to establish charging stations and infrastructure facilities, while EV manufacturers are offering discounts of 10-20% to government employees.
In a unique initiative, the state government negotiated discounts of up to 20% on electric two and four-wheelers for its employees, potentially saving each employee up to Rs 4 lakh. This move, involving various EV manufacturers, is part of Telangana’s broader public EV policy, which includes a 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees for all types of electric vehicles.
