Tension arose in Hyderabad’s Asif Nagar area following a clash between two groups regarding the alleged transportation of cattle. The conflict began when a lorry was stopped by gau rakshaks in Guddimalkapur on suspicion of carrying cattle late Saturday night, leading to stone-pelting by cow vigilantes and ensuing panic in the vicinity. The lorry driver contended that the vehicle was actually transporting plywood, contrary to the claims made by the gau rakshaks.
Local residents gathered as the group that halted the lorry assaulted its driver, escalating into a heated argument and confrontation between the two factions. Police intervened, resorting to a lathi charge to disperse the clashing groups. In the ensuing chaos, two policemen sustained injuries from stone pelting, along with a few passersby, and several vehicles were damaged during the incident.
Majid Hussain, the local MLA from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), criticized the cow vigilantes for causing disruption over a lorry supposedly carrying plywood but falsely accused of transporting cows. Hussain, along with his supporters, boarded the lorry and traveled a distance to investigate the situation, questioning the alleged police inaction. He demanded strict action, including the initiation of communal sheets against those responsible for the attack on the lorry.
Accusing the gau rakshaks of attempting to disturb the city’s peaceful environment through such assaults, Hussain urged the police to take decisive measures against the wrongdoers to avert any potential law and order issues. Additional police forces were deployed in the area to uphold order, with the Asif Nagar Police initiating an investigation and registering a case in response to the incident.
