Thousands of people gathered in central Seoul to mark the first anniversary of the removal of former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was convicted of insurrection. Demonstrators at the Constitutional Court called for social reform and an end to insurrection and treason.
On the same day, supporters of Yoon staged rallies near the Constitutional Court and the National Assembly, demanding his release and waving national flags. Despite differing opinions on Yoon’s ouster, the rallies remained peaceful with no reported clashes between participants.
Yoon, who was sentenced to life in prison for insurrection, has been in custody since his failed attempt to impose martial law in December 2024. The main opposition People Power Party has distanced itself from Yoon, apologizing for his martial law declaration and vowing to sever ties with him.
