Three individuals infected with Covid-19 have been hospitalized in Kolkata. Among them is a 10-year-old boy who was previously admitted to a private hospital in the city. Currently, four people are receiving treatment for Covid-19 in private hospitals in Kolkata.

Dr. Subhajit Sen, a Consultant Pulmonologist and Critical Care Specialist at the hospital, mentioned a rise in seasonal viral infections, including influenza and Covid-19. Presently, they are treating three patients with Covid-19. One patient has recovered and is being discharged, while two others needed ICU care due to low oxygen levels but are now in stable condition.

The doctor noted that the current Covid-19 pattern resembles the Omicron wave, with most patients showing mild upper respiratory symptoms like fever, sore throat, cough, and body aches. However, older individuals and those with underlying health issues are at a higher risk of severe illness.

Emphasizing the importance of not panicking, the doctor advised that most patients recover well with timely medical attention. People are urged to take precautions such as wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining hand hygiene, avoiding unnecessary gatherings during high viral transmission periods, and seeking prompt medical help if symptoms worsen. Vigilance, rather than fear, is crucial at this time.

On July 18, the 10-year-old boy from Garia, a suburb of Kolkata, was admitted to another private hospital with symptoms like fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Following a positive Covid-19 test result, he was moved to the ICU’s isolation unit for further care.

Notably, Covid-19 cases are on the rise across the country. In Andhra Pradesh, 12 individuals tested positive for Covid-19 between June 26 and July 16, with four patients having comorbidities succumbing to the virus. Pune is also witnessing a resurgence in Covid-19 cases after nearly three years, with new patients identified in the past ten days. While most patients exhibit mild symptoms, caution is advised by healthcare professionals.
