At least three individuals lost their lives, and ten others sustained injuries in a tragic head-on crash involving a speeding four-wheeler and an auto rickshaw carrying passengers in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. The collision occurred on the Basanti Highway in the Minakhan police station area of Basirhat subdivision.
The fatal accident transpired right in front of the Minakhan Gram Panchayat office, as confirmed by the local authorities. Among the ten seriously injured passengers, currently in critical condition, who are undergoing treatment in the hospital, the situation remains precarious.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the auto-rickshaw, en route from Malancha to Kolkata with multiple passengers, was struck head-on by a speeding four-wheeler returning from Kolkata. The impact was so severe that the auto was thrown off the road, resulting in immediate casualties.
Following the distressing incident, rescue operations were promptly initiated by officers from the Minakhan police station and central forces personnel stationed in the vicinity. The injured individuals were swiftly rescued and transported to Minakhan Rural Hospital for initial treatment before being transferred to a Kolkata hospital for advanced medical care due to their critical conditions. An investigation has been launched to determine the root cause of the collision.
Reacting to the tragedy, Pratik Mandal, an ISF candidate from Minakhan Assembly constituency, expressed deep sorrow and vowed to support the affected families by providing necessary assistance during this challenging time.
