Three police officers sustained injuries when a suspected drug trafficker drove his car into them while trying to escape during a drug operation led by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW). The incident took place at Tilak Road in the Abids area of Hyderabad on Sunday. Acting on reliable information about drug trafficking, the H-NEW team initiated an operation at Tilak Road to apprehend the suspects.
The H-NEW team, monitoring the area, observed the suspected drug dealer arriving in a car near a footwear shop for a transaction. The individual in the car handed a package to another person. Swiftly, the police arrested the recipient of the package. However, when the H-NEW team intercepted the car, the driver pretended to park but suddenly accelerated, crashing into the police officers in an attempt to flee.
One police constable, Mahender Yadav, suffered a leg fracture during the incident. The authorities pursued the fleeing suspect and apprehended him near Afzal Gunj. Inspector Sreekanth and another constable, Vamseedhar, sustained minor injuries in the pursuit. The alleged drug trafficker has been identified as Saif, a resident of Husseini Alam in Hyderabad.
Mahender Yadav was hospitalized for his injuries, and cases of attempted murder were filed against the accused at Abids and Afzal Gunj police stations based on his complaint. The police have initiated further investigations into the matter.
In a separate incident, a pedestrian lost his life after being hit by a speeding car in the Rajendranagar area of Hyderabad on Sunday night. The driver, allegedly intoxicated, struck the pedestrian near the Rajendranagar DCP office. The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Locals chased the car and apprehended the driver, Sai Nithin, who was reportedly heavily intoxicated. The police have registered a case and are conducting additional investigations into the incident.
