A tragic incident unfolded in Bhagalpur, Bihar, on Wednesday when three young men lost their lives while attempting to rescue their aunt during a bath in the Ganga river. The incident took place at Dhodha Ghat, leaving the local community in shock. Eyewitnesses recounted that the woman, accompanied by her brother’s three sons, accidentally moved into deeper waters while bathing and began to struggle.
The three nephews, witnessing their aunt, Rukmini Devi, in distress due to the strong current, bravely jumped into the river successively to save her. Despite the locals managing to rescue Rukmini Devi and rush her to a nearby clinic, the young men were swept away by the forceful current and tragically drowned. The deceased were identified as Krishna Kumar (26), Sunny Kumar (24), and Bobby Kumar (26), all relatives who had accompanied their aunt for the bath.
Police promptly responded to the scene upon notification of the incident. With the assistance of locals, the bodies of the three youths were recovered from the river. The authorities have taken custody of the bodies for post-mortem examinations, while investigations into the tragic event are ongoing. The loss of three family members simultaneously has deeply saddened both the family and the local community, enveloping the area in sorrow.
Family members are overwhelmed with grief, and a somber atmosphere now prevails in the vicinity following the heart-wrenching occurrence. Local residents have raised concerns about illegal sand mining in the river, pointing out the challenges in determining water depth due to the riverbed’s irregularities. They suspect that the uneven riverbed may have contributed to the accident, as the victims were unaware of the sudden depth, leading to their unfortunate demise.
