The Met Office predicts thunderstorms accompanied by rain in South Bengal districts and Kolkata until May 5. On Monday, during the vote counting for the West Bengal Assembly polls at 77 centers, there is a high likelihood of thunderstorms and rain. Since April 29, Kolkata and the south Bengal districts have experienced thunderstorm activities.
Thunderstorms with rain have led to a decrease in both the minimum and maximum temperatures in the region. Despite the sweltering heat due to high humidity during the day, evenings bring pleasant weather with gusty winds. This weather pattern is expected to persist until next Tuesday, with ongoing thunderstorms across South Bengal.
A cyclonic circulation extending from north Haryana to Manipur through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Bangladesh, and Assam is bringing a significant amount of water vapor from the Bay of Bengal into West Bengal. This influx creates favorable conditions for thunderstorms and rain in Bengal. The sky in Kolkata is anticipated to be cloudy on Saturday, with chances of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms by evening. Thunderstorm warnings are in place for several districts, and fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea until May 3.
