Panic ensued briefly at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai when a tissue paper with the word ‘Danger’ was found in an IndiGo flight’s lavatory. The discovery occurred during the preparation of IndiGo flight 911 for its journey to Ahmedabad near Gate No. 5, raising immediate concerns among airport authorities. Security agencies, including the fire brigade and police, were promptly alerted, fearing a potential bomb threat.
The situation led to a temporary panic at the airport, triggering the activation of emergency protocols as a precautionary measure. The Police Control Room and the nearest police station were notified, and a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team rushed to the scene for a thorough inspection of the aircraft. Following an extensive search of the plane and its surroundings, officials confirmed the absence of any suspicious or hazardous items on board.
Despite the initial alarm, authorities determined the incident to be a false alarm and treated it as a precautionary response to a potentially serious threat. An investigation is ongoing to identify the individual responsible for the message and ascertain the motive behind it. Subsequently, airport operations resumed normalcy, with passengers reassured of their safety due to stringent security measures in place.
In a separate security incident on March 29, a Frontier Airlines flight faced a scare at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States. Allegedly, a passenger made a verbal bomb threat and threatened another traveler while the aircraft was taxiing to the gate. The pilot promptly alerted Air Traffic Control, leading to the aircraft’s redirection to a remote area for further investigation.
Authorities stress the importance of vigilance and encourage passengers to report any suspicious activities to maintain safety and security at airports.
