Hollywood actor Tom Holland discusses his part in the upcoming film ‘The Odyssey,’ directed by Christopher Nolan. In the movie, Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, portrayed by Matt Damon. Holland views this role as a significant shift as he transitions into playing more mature characters in his thirties.
Reflecting on his character, Holland expressed that portraying Telemachus made him contemplate masculinity and its diverse representations during the journey from boyhood to manhood. He emphasized the idea that masculinity varies in forms and sizes, with no single version being ideal. ‘The Odyssey’ also marks Holland’s first collaboration with Nolan, a milestone he eagerly anticipated.
‘The Odyssey’ boasts a star-studded cast, including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Zendaya, who plays the role of the goddess Athena. In an interview, Holland revealed that Nolan personally suggested casting Zendaya for the part, a decision he wholeheartedly welcomed. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 17, 2026.
