Tragedy unfolded in Tikamgarh district, Madhya Pradesh, when two eight-year-old girls, Nibiya and Tanvi Sahu, lost their lives after being struck by lightning while seeking shelter under a tree. The incident occurred during sudden thunderstorms and strong winds in Baidora village between 7 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.
The unfortunate event took place amidst extreme weather conditions in Madhya Pradesh, with northern districts facing severe storms and the western and central regions enduring a scorching heatwave. Reports reveal that Niwari tehsil of Tikamgarh district witnessed violent weather changes, including hailstorms and intense winds affecting several villages.
While the northern areas suffered from localized storms causing destruction and sorrow, the rest of the state grappled with persistent heatwaves. Ratlam recorded the highest temperature in the state at 44.5 degrees Celsius, with Balaghat experiencing wind speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.
The Weather Centre in Bhopal has issued a warning for the night, predicting ongoing atmospheric instability. Residents in Morena and Bhind have been cautioned about moderate thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and wind speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour. Furthermore, areas like Tikamgarh, north Gwalior, Sagar, Damoh, and north Chhatarpur, including Khajuraho, are expected to face light thunderstorms with lightning.
