A tragic road accident on the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur four-lane highway in Patna district resulted in the death of a woman and her son, with eight others sustaining serious injuries. The incident caused panic in the area, prompting local residents to rush to the scene to assist the victims before they were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Phulmati Devi and her son, Upendra Singh, both residents of Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh. They were returning home after offering prayers at Babadham (Deoghar) when the accident occurred. Among the injured were the vehicle’s driver, Veer Kumar, Nikki Devi, Pawan Kumar, Rukmani Devi, Renu Devi, Sanjana Singh, and Payal Kumari. Initially taken to a nearby Community Health Centre (CHC) for first aid, they were later referred to Patna for advanced medical care.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Bolero vehicle was speeding when the driver lost control, causing it to veer off the road, collide with a tree, and overturn. Local residents came to the rescue of those trapped inside the vehicle. Upon receiving news of the accident, the police arrived at the scene to manage the situation. The bodies were sent to Barh Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examination before being handed over to the family members.
Bakhtiyarpur Station House Officer, Devanand Sharma, mentioned that the family of the deceased was informed about the incident via phone. The injured victims were admitted to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) for further treatment. An investigation has been initiated by the police to ascertain the precise cause of the accident.
