Ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, a training program was conducted for Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) from key districts including Medchal Malkajgiri, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, and Hyderabad. The Chief Electoral Officer, C. Sudarshan Reddy, led the comprehensive training session focusing on the preparation, updation, and maintenance of Electoral Rolls, along with detailed orientation on the upcoming SIR.
Fifty Electoral Registration Officers participated in the training, which aimed to enhance the capacity of field-level officers to ensure accuracy, inclusiveness, and transparency in electoral roll management. The program emphasized statutory provisions, timelines, procedures for claims and objections, and the effective utilization of technology in electoral processes.
Sudarshan Reddy highlighted the crucial role of EROs in maintaining the integrity and purity of electoral rolls, instructing all officers to enroll eligible citizens while removing ineligible entries in compliance with the law. The participants were briefed on best practices, field-level challenges, and strategies for the successful implementation of the forthcoming SIR. Interactive sessions were conducted to address queries and clarify procedural aspects.
The training initiative is part of the Election Commission’s ongoing efforts to guarantee free, fair, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes, as stated by the CEO’s office. The CEO recently announced the commencement of preparatory work for SIR in Telangana and urged political parties to appoint at least one Booth Level Agent (BLA) for every polling station. Strong booth-level coordination was emphasized as essential for the exercise, with BLAs encouraged to work closely with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from the local area of the polling station.
Each polling booth is required to have at least one appointed BLA to facilitate accuracy, transparency, and timely issue resolution during the revision of electoral rolls. The CEO informed political parties that the SIR is currently ongoing in 12 states, with the schedule for the remaining states, including Telangana, expected to be announced in April-May 2026.
