A private travel agency bus traveling from Jodhpur to Bengaluru narrowly avoided a major tragedy when it caught fire near the D-Mart outlet on Pali Road. Thanks to the driver’s quick actions, all 16 passengers were safely evacuated before the flames engulfed the vehicle. The incident occurred on Tuesday night as the bus was leaving the city limits after crossing Jhalamand.
Sparks from the engine section caused panic among passengers as flames and smoke spread rapidly inside the bus. The driver’s prompt response led to the bus being pulled over to the roadside, and all passengers were evacuated through the main exit in a timely manner. While most passengers managed to rescue their belongings, some luggage was lost in the fire that consumed most of the bus before firefighters contained it.
Police and fire brigade teams responded swiftly to the incident after being alerted. Firefighters from Basni Fire Station and Shastri Nagar Fire Station, under Officer Prashant Singh Chauhan’s supervision, brought the blaze under control after intense efforts lasting nearly half an hour. Traffic on Pali Road faced disruptions for about 30 minutes during the firefighting operation.
Authorities later towed the burnt bus from the road using a crane and moved it to the Vivek Vihar Police Station for further investigation. Initial assessments point to the fire possibly starting due to overheating or a short circuit near the engine wiring. The bus, categorized as Euro-6, has reportedly been involved in similar engine-area fire incidents in other states. A detailed technical investigation by the fire brigade is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.
