The Trinamool Congress faction, led by former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has taken legal action against the Enforcement Directorate’s actions on three party bank accounts totaling Rs 440 crore. The situation has become complex due to simultaneous investigations by the West Bengal Police and the ED.
Following instructions from the state police, debit restrictions were imposed on these accounts by the bank authorities last month. In response, the Mamata Banerjee-led faction approached the Calcutta High Court, which granted limited access to the accounts. However, the ED later decided to freeze these accounts, leading to further legal challenges.
To address the ongoing complications arising from the ED’s actions, the Trinamool Congress faction has approached another bench of the Calcutta High Court. The matter is scheduled for a hearing on July 13. Additionally, debit restrictions have been placed on 12 more party accounts, totaling over Rs 550 crore, by the West Bengal Police.
The total deposit amount affected by the debit restrictions across all 15 accounts now stands at nearly Rs 1,000 crore, highlighting the significant financial implications of the ongoing legal battles.
