A minority faction within Trinamool Congress, supporting Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, has lodged four complaints at police stations in and around Kolkata. These complaints target the majority faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee, who was expelled from the party. The complaints, filed in the last 24 hours, focus on the unauthorized use of the party’s logo and the announcement of Arup Roy as the party’s chairperson, replacing Mamata Banerjee.
Two of the complaints were filed at police stations under the Kolkata Police jurisdiction, namely Kalighat Police Station and Pragati Maidan Police Station. The other two complaints were lodged at police stations under the Bidhannagar City Police jurisdiction: New Town Police Station and Bidhannagar Cyber Police Station, with the latest complaint filed at the Bidhannagar Cyber Police Station.
According to an insider from the minority faction, the essence of all four complaints is the same. They accuse the rebel faction of using the party’s logo without authorization in their mass programs and falsely declaring Arup Roy as the party’s chairperson. The minority faction member highlighted that a party conference in 2022 confirmed Mamata Banerjee as the party’s chairperson for life, with only long-standing members having voting rights.
The rebel faction, however, argues that they have taken the matter of the party logo and funds to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for resolution. They believe that the Commission will decide on the issue at that level.
