Many Trinamool Congress MLAs and MPs have gone missing following the party’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly election. Notably, a number of women representatives, who were previously vocal in supporting the party and its leader, are among those unaccounted for. Bharatiya Janata Party’s national spokesperson, Pradeep Bhandari, highlighted this issue through a social media post featuring prominent women representatives from Trinamool.
The post, titled “Laapata Ladies,” showcased four key women representatives from Trinamool known for advocating their causes both within and outside Parliament. The featured MPs included Mahua Moitra and Saayoni Ghosh from Lok Sabha, along with Menaka Guruswamy and Sagarika Ghosh from Rajya Sabha. Each photograph on the poster was labeled as “missing.”
Mahua and Sagarika are recognized for their strong debates and statements, while Saayoni, a noted film actor, is known for her forceful advocacy and multilingual skills. Menaka Guruswamy gained attention earlier this year for a viral video where she confronted Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju during a court hearing involving the Enforcement Directorate and the then Trinamool-led West Bengal government.
The absence of these representatives, who were previously vocal supporters of Trinamool Congress and Mamata Banerjee, has sparked discussions. Despite their past criticism of the ruling National Democratic Alliance, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, their current absence during a challenging period for their leader has raised questions.
