Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee stirred controversy by emphasizing the need for the Opposition to engage in ground-level battles rather than relying solely on media or social platforms. He pointed to electoral setbacks in Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra, and Bihar as examples. In response, the BJP criticized Opposition parties, accusing them of distancing themselves from the Congress, which they view as a liability.
Banerjee escalated the situation by accusing the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI) of “vote theft.” He stressed the importance of unity among parties to address this issue, attributing the defeats in various states to voter support shifting away from the Opposition. He urged a shift in strategy, emphasizing the significance of on-ground political engagement over media-centric approaches.
The BJP seized on Banerjee’s comments to launch a strong offensive against the Opposition, highlighting alleged disarray within the “INDIA bloc.” BJP representatives criticized the lack of clarity and unity within the alliance, with spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla specifically targeting the Congress for its perceived shortcomings. The BJP further emphasized the absence of a cohesive strategy within the Opposition alliance.
