It has been confirmed that the Trinamool Congress has divided a month following a significant loss in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections. A total of 58 out of 80 Trinamool Congress legislators in the Assembly have rebelled, led by expelled members Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha. These legislators have submitted a new resolution in the Assembly, asserting themselves as the authentic representatives of the Trinamool Congress.
The resolution, signed by the 58 legislators, designates Ritabrata as the Leader of Opposition, representing the Uluberia (Purba) Assembly constituency in Howrah district. Additionally, other Trinamool Congress legislators have been named as opposition deputy leaders, including Sandipan Saha, Siuli Saha, and Javed Ahmed Khan from various constituencies. Akhruzzaman from Raghunathganj has been appointed as the Chief Whip of the new Trinamool Congress block in the Assembly, with Mamata Banerjee identified as the party president.
The rebel legislators, along with Ritabrata, presented the resolution to the Speaker after holding an emergency meeting. The Speaker accepted the resolution, which marks a significant development in the ongoing internal strife within the Trinamool Congress. The situation escalated further when discrepancies in the signatures of some legislators were pointed out, leading to expulsions and investigations.
The rebellion within the party culminated in the formation of a new block, positioning itself as the legitimate representation of the Trinamool Congress. Notably, there has been no official response from key party figures like Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. The internal turmoil and power struggle within the Trinamool Congress continue to unfold, impacting the political landscape in West Bengal.
