Trinamool leader Anubrata Mondal, who recently sided with the rebel faction of Trinamool Congress, asserted that his imprisonment was a result of party MP Abhishek Banerjee. Mondal, from Birbhum, visited Kolkata to meet the rebels, but the majority Trinamool Congress leaders, led by Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee, were against him.
Mondal stated that his jail term was due to Abhishek Banerjee and emphasized his continued allegiance to the Trinamool party. He revealed that he had advised Mamata Banerjee multiple times to remove Abhishek from the party, citing various issues, but no action was taken. After being arrested in a cow smuggling case in 2022, Mondal blamed his imprisonment on Abhishek Banerjee.
Following his release from jail in July 2024, Mondal withdrew from active politics in Birbhum and expressed dissatisfaction with Mamata Banerjee’s faction. He criticized the party’s political consultancy firm, I-PAC, accusing it of favoritism in ticket distribution. Mondal, along with Trinamool’s Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra, alleged that many faced imprisonment due to Abhishek’s influence.
