Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that the BJP government is committed to upholding law and order, noting a significant decrease in overall crime rates in the state by November 2025 compared to 2023. Following a high-level law and order review meeting with senior police officials at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala, the Chief Minister highlighted the crucial role of police stations in ensuring effective governance. Saha, who oversees the home portfolio, emphasized that service delivery commences at the police station level.
“We have 90 police stations and nine women police stations. There was a time when political interference impacted policing discipline. We need to eradicate that practice. I have never summoned any Officer-in-Charge (OC) nor meddled in police operations,” he affirmed.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of respecting police personnel, stating that the uniform symbolizes responsibility and should be revered. He advocated for assessing officers based on performance rather than political affiliations. Saha disclosed that he conducts biweekly review meetings with Superintendents of Police (SPs) and District Magistrates (DMs) based on reports and feedback.
Directing OCs to oversee daily FIR registrations and ensure proper drafting, Saha underscored the significance of counseling, prompt filing of charge sheets to prevent justice delays, and maintaining physical fitness among police personnel.
Saha highlighted a substantial decline in crime figures across all categories. Incidents of crimes against humanity decreased from 1,385 cases in 2023 to 753 cases by November 2025. Property-related offenses dropped from 412 to 275 cases during the same period, while crimes against women reduced from 791 cases in 2023 to 627 cases by November 2025. Regarding NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985) cases, Saha reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance on drug-related offenses.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have unequivocally expressed zero tolerance towards drug-related crimes. Overall crime cases decreased from 5,002 in 2023 to 3,386 by November 2025,” he asserted. Saha affirmed the government’s vigilance regarding Bangladesh-related issues, communal elements, and intermediaries, emphasizing the non-negotiable stance on law and order.
“If we collaborate, we can shape a new India and Tripura,” he remarked, instructing police officers to act decisively, autonomously, and in accordance with the law. Director General of Police Anurag, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
