Manik Saha highlighted that the Tripura government is prioritizing the enhancement and expansion of healthcare services in the state, resulting in an 80% reduction in patients referred outside for treatment. Speaking at the International Nurses Day celebration in Agartala, Saha praised Florence Nightingale for her humanitarian contributions to nursing, emphasizing compassion and dedication. As the Chief Minister and Health Minister, Saha announced upcoming healthcare projects including a medical university, super-speciality hospitals, a new medical college in the tribal areas, and an eye hospital, all aimed at reducing the necessity for out-of-state treatments.
Highlighting the crucial role of nurses in the healthcare system, Saha emphasized their significance as the backbone of medical services, attributing their experience and trustworthiness to the challenges they face. He commended healthcare workers for their dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic, underscoring the importance of prioritizing their well-being. Saha also noted the expansion of nursing education and job opportunities in Tripura, with the appointment of 153 nursing personnel and plans for recruiting 100 more soon.
The event, held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, was attended by Kiran Gitte, Health and Family Welfare Secretary; Debashree Debbarma, Health Director; Anjan Das, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine; H.P. Sharma, Director of Medical Education; and other senior officials, reflecting the government’s commitment to advancing healthcare services in Tripura.
