Tripura Police have taken into custody a Tripura State Rifles Rifleman, Ajit Debbarma, and a Health Department employee, Menaka Debbarma, following the circulation of a video displaying a significant amount of cash at a residence in Dhalai district. Authorities have also apprehended five individuals and are questioning around ten others in connection with the case. The Chief Minister, Manik Saha, emphasized that no one involved in criminal activities would be shielded, asserting that the law would prevail.
A video that emerged on social media last week, revealing bundles of cash suspected to be worth crores, triggered a stir in the state. Despite the video’s content, no cash has been recovered from the woman’s residence, who is married to a police constable. Director General of Police Anurag expressed dissatisfaction over the incident and instructed immediate action against those implicated. Subsequently, a team of senior police officials launched a thorough investigation into the matter.
Around 15 individuals, including women, police personnel, Tripura State Rifles members, and a Health Department employee, have been either detained or questioned. These individuals are currently undergoing interrogation at police stations in Ambassa and Agartala. Authorities suspect the involvement of an interstate network engaged in illicit financial transactions and drug trafficking. The investigation has brought nearly Rs 5 crore in cash under scrutiny, with allegations and counter-allegations surfacing during the interrogation process.
