Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, revealed plans to increase mango cultivation by 55 hectares in the mountainous Dhalai district. This expansion aims to boost mango growers’ livelihoods through enhanced infrastructure and financial aid. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Monsoon Mango Festival 2026 in Gandatwisa.
Highlighting the state’s focus on horticulture, Minister Nath expressed the government’s commitment to transforming Gandatwisa and Dumboor into prominent mango cultivation hubs with global recognition. He praised the exceptional quality of mangoes grown in the region, emphasizing the government’s efforts to promote them on a larger scale.
To support mango growers, the government is organizing a festival and providing financial assistance to revitalize old orchards. Additionally, plans include bringing more land under mango cultivation and offering improved preservation facilities like cold chambers. The objective is to enhance farmers’ incomes and improve their livelihoods.
Minister Nath highlighted the success of Gandatwisa as a mango cultivation center, attributing it to the hard work of around 259 farmers. He encouraged diversification into high-value crops like pineapple, ginger, and bird’s eye chili, stressing the importance of utilizing all cultivable land. The government’s development agenda aims to empower every segment of society, with a focus on rural transformation and economic self-sufficiency.
