US President Donald Trump and FIFA chief Gianni Infantino faced jeers from spectators at the World Cup trophy presentation following Spain’s victory in the final. Trump, arriving at the stadium on Marine One, received boos during the U.S. national anthem performance. He was seated with Infantino in a suite alongside other dignitaries and former players.
The atmosphere turned awkward as Trump and Infantino appeared on the field after Spain’s win, with boos echoing around the stadium. Trump’s presence raised ambient crowd noise to 84 decibels. After the trophy presentation, Trump tried to join Spain’s victory celebrations on stage, leading to a slightly uncomfortable situation.
A video circulating on social media showed Spain player Rodri nudging Trump to step aside during the celebrations. Despite attempts to guide him away, Trump remained standing with the players. The summit clash also saw chaos post-final whistle, with players engaging in altercations, including Argentina’s Leandro Paredes grabbing Spain’s Eric Garcia by the throat and other physical confrontations.
