US President Donald Trump announced that Iran’s enriched uranium will be handed over to the United States for destruction, either on American soil or at another suitable location. Trump emphasized the importance of coordinating with Iran for the destruction process, with oversight from the Atomic Energy Commission or its equivalent. However, the exact quantity of enriched uranium to be transferred was not specified by Trump.
In response to reports suggesting Iran’s willingness to transfer enriched uranium abroad, Iran’s Tasnim news agency denied such claims. Tasnim clarified that there was no agreement in place for the removal of nuclear materials from Iran, debunking the alleged details of a potential memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington. The agency highlighted that Iran had not committed to any nuclear actions as outlined in the memorandum.
According to The Washington Post, a prospective deal between Iran and the US involves the release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets by Washington, initiation of minesweeping operations in the Strait of Hormuz, and the lifting of the US blockade. Notably, this deal does not encompass any provisions related to a nuclear agreement, as confirmed by an Iranian official quoted in the report.
