US President Donald Trump mentioned in an NBC interview that the US and Iran are nearing a peace deal, with only a few minor disagreements remaining. Iran has already agreed to a clause preventing the development of nuclear weapons, but Trump also wants them to renounce other means of acquiring such arms.
Trump urged Israel to conduct more precise attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon for the betterment of the region. Recent Israeli raids in Beirut resulted in casualties, adding to the toll of the conflict that began on March 2. Trump acknowledged the involvement of Iran’s new Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei in the peace process.
Describing Mojtaba Khamenei as rational and courageous, Trump expressed openness to direct talks with him. He mentioned plans for cooperation with Iran to handle enriched uranium once a peace agreement is reached. However, Trump warned of military action to eliminate uranium stockpiles if no agreement is achieved.
