U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping strongly opposes any move towards Taiwan independence. Trump mentioned that during their talks in China, the two leaders reached agreements on Iran, trade, and artificial intelligence. Trump praised Xi, calling him “an incredible guy,” and highlighted significant commercial deals, including a potential record aircraft order involving Boeing and General Electric.
Taiwan was a major topic during the discussions, with Xi cautioning against any push for independence on the self-ruled island. Trump refrained from confirming whether the U.S. would defend Taiwan in a conflict with China, stating that only he knows the answer. Additionally, Trump hinted at a reconsideration of future arms sales to Taiwan in the near future.
Xi expressed strong opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons and advocated for reopening the critical global oil shipping route, the Strait of Hormuz. Trump emphasized the weakening of Iran’s military capabilities due to recent U.S. operations, claiming a significant military victory. He also mentioned a ceasefire agreed upon “as a favor to Pakistan.”
Discussing artificial intelligence, Trump revealed talks with Beijing on establishing “guardrails” for emerging technologies. Xi reportedly praised Trump’s economic policies while criticizing former President Joe Biden, stating that the U.S. had declined in the past four years but commending Trump’s recent achievements as nearly miraculous.
