TVK President C. Joseph Vijay has organized a crucial gathering of newly elected party legislators at the TVK headquarters in Panaiyur on Thursday. This meeting is significant as the party is still short of the majority needed to establish the government in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. Vijay is expected to discuss the evolving political scenario and efforts to garner additional support from other parties and independent legislators with the MLAs-elect.
TVK, in its debut electoral contest, emerged as the largest party in Tamil Nadu with 108 seats, disrupting the traditional dominance of the DMK and AIADMK. Despite this victory, the party falls below the required 118 seats for a stable government. Over the past two days, the party has been actively engaging in negotiations with various political entities and Independents to bolster its numbers.
During Thursday’s meeting, Vijay is likely to update the legislators on the latest political developments, alliance discussions, and the constitutional procedures related to government formation. He is expected to emphasize the importance of unity among the ranks and advise against making public statements while negotiations are ongoing. The swearing-in ceremony, initially planned for this week, faces uncertainty due to unresolved numerical challenges.
Security has been heightened around the Panaiyur headquarters ahead of the meeting, anticipating a significant gathering of TVK supporters. The next 48 hours are crucial in determining whether Vijay can secure the government or if rival parties will pursue alternative strategies.
