Jabalpur/Bhopal, May 27 (IANS) Giribala Singh, mother-in-law of deceased Twisha Sharma, on Wednesday denied allegations made by the Madhya Pradesh Police while defending her anticipatory bail plea before the Principal Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur.

In a detailed reply submitted through her counsel, advocate Mrigendra Singh, Giribala Singh claimed she had fully cooperated with investigators and never attempted to influence the probe or tamper with evidence in the case, which was recently transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The defence urged the court to grant anticipatory bail, arguing that custodial interrogation was unnecessary and that arresting Giribala Singh at this stage would amount to “pre-trial punishment”.

The defence told the High Court that most portions of the family residence had already been sealed by police on May 13, leaving “no possibility” of destruction or manipulation of evidence.

The reply further stated that police officials, and later CBI officers, entered the house freely and seized mobile phones, electronic devices, passports and documents without any resistance from the family.

Rejecting allegations related to the leak of CCTV footage to media organisations, the defence argued that the DVR had already been seized by police and remained in official custody.

On allegations concerning the manipulation of the first post-mortem conducted at AIIMS Bhopal, the defence lawyer maintained that there was no evidence linking Giribala Singh to any interference in the medical examination process.

Addressing allegations linked to abortion pills, the defence stated that Twisha Sharma had independently taken the medication after receiving counselling from doctors. The reply also claimed that she had been undergoing psychiatric treatment for anxiety.

Giribala’s lawyers argued that the possibility of suicide had not been ruled out, citing post-mortem observations mentioning ante-mortem hanging and CCTV footage already in police possession.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court was hearing petitions challenging Giribala Singh’s anticipatory bail granted by a Bhopal district court following an FIR registered after the death of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma, on May 12.
