Two Indian mountaineers, Arun Kumar Tiwari and Sandeep Are, lost their lives while descending from Mount Everest, as confirmed by a senior official at Nepal’s Department of Tourism. The climbers passed away after successfully reaching the summit of the world’s tallest mountain. The exact cause of their deaths remains unknown, according to the Director of the Department of Tourism.
Tiwari met his unfortunate end near the Hillary Step, just below the summit, despite being assisted by four Sherpa climbers during the descent. On the other hand, Are suffered from snow blindness after conquering the summit and was rescued from the South Summit. Tragically, he passed away at Camp II after being brought down by five Sherpa rescuers.
This climbing season on Everest has witnessed a total of five fatalities, with seven deaths reported in Nepal’s Himalayan mountains overall. Earlier in the season, three Nepali climbers also lost their lives on Mt. Everest. The tourism department disclosed that around 600 climbers, including permit holders and Sherpa guides, had successfully summited Everest by Thursday.
