Two Nigerian citizens, Miracele Onyeka and Moses Chinoso, were apprehended by Delhi Police on New Year’s eve for overstaying their travel/business visas in India. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West District, Amit Goel, mentioned that the individuals were detained while en route to Hauz Khas village for celebrations on December 31. Initially claiming to have deposited their visas with the Embassy for safekeeping, it was later discovered that they had exceeded their stay in India and lacked valid visa documents.
Further investigations by the Immigration Department and other sources confirmed their illegal status. The duo confessed to being undocumented migrants and disclosed that they had been working as housekeepers in Shahpura (Delhi), Gurugram, and Noida, residing in the Kishangarh Village area. Upon searching their mobile phones, copies of their Nigerian Passports and National ID cards were found in hidden folders.
Deportation proceedings have been initiated through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), R.K. Puram, New Delhi, following thorough verification and completion of necessary formalities. To combat the issue of illegal foreign migrants overstaying in the country, dedicated teams of Operations Cell, South West District, have been tasked with gathering intelligence and taking stringent actions against such individuals. The apprehension of the two Nigerians was carried out by a team led by Inspector Gajendra Singh (I/C Anti Narcotics Cell/SWD) and comprised ASI Ved Prakash, Head Constable Sundar, Head Constable Deepak, Head Constable Sandeep, Ct. Rajesh, Ct. Mohit, and Ct. Farhaan.
