Two sanitation workers tragically lost their lives in Jaipur’s Jhotwara area while cleaning a sewer tank. The incident occurred near the 200-Feet Road locality under the Jhotwara zone. These workers, who were on contract, were instructed to enter the tank for cleaning purposes.
The workers reportedly fainted inside the tank, likely due to toxic gases present. They were swiftly rescued and rushed to Kanwatia Hospital, where they were pronounced dead by doctors. The identities of the deceased individuals were pending official confirmation at the time of reporting.
The unfortunate deaths have once again brought attention to the safety concerns surrounding sanitation workers engaged in such hazardous tasks. Allegations suggest that the workers were sent into the tank without proper protective gear or adherence to safety protocols.
The incident raises questions about the enforcement of safety regulations during sewer cleaning operations. Manual entry into sewer and septic tanks without adequate safety measures is prohibited by Supreme Court guidelines. Despite these regulations, incidents resulting in the loss of sanitation workers’ lives are still being reported across the country.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, with police and administrative officials present at the scene. The responsible parties are expected to face consequences once the inquiry is completed and those at fault are identified. This tragic event underscores the risks faced by sanitation workers and emphasizes the critical need for strict safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
