Two individuals were shot by police in Queensland, Australia. The Queensland Police Service reported that officers responded to an attempted armed robbery in Mount Sheridan, Cairns. A 28-year-old man was located by the officers at a roundabout and was shot on Foster Road during an attempt to engage with him.
Both the man and a civilian woman who sustained a gunshot wound received immediate first aid from the officers. They were then taken to Cairns Base Hospital for further treatment. Fortunately, no police officers were harmed during the incident.
An investigation into the matter is being conducted by the Queensland Police Service’s Ethical Standards Command, overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission. The authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
In a separate incident on January 22, three individuals lost their lives in a shooting in Lake Cargelligo, west of Sydney, New South Wales. The NSW Police Force confirmed the deaths of two women and a man, with another man hospitalized in a serious but stable condition. A crime scene was established, and residents were advised to stay indoors.
On January 18, a man in Lalor Park, a Sydney suburb, was seriously injured in a public place shooting. Emergency services responded to reports of gunshots fired into a home, injuring a 46-year-old resident. The man was treated for a gunshot wound and is in stable condition at the hospital.
