Defending champions U Mumba TT made history by defeating UP Prometheans 13-2 in the Ultimate Table Tennis Season 7 at the Dr Shayama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao near Panaji. This victory marked the largest winning margin in the competition’s five-match format and set a new record with 11 consecutive game wins, propelling U Mumba to the top of the table. Lilian Bardet and Anusha Kutumbale led U Mumba to a 6-0 lead, followed by a strong performance from the mixed doubles pairing of Manush Shah and Anna Hursey, securing the win.
In a remarkable display of skill, U Mumba continued their dominance as Manush Shah defeated Manav Thakkar, and Anna Hursey sealed the record-breaking triumph. The day also saw Ahmedabad APL Pipers defeating PBG Pune Jaguars 10-5 to stay in the playoff race. The Ultimate Table Tennis Season 7, organized by the Table Tennis Federation of India, features 42 players from around the world, including 14 Olympians, contributing to the growth of Indian table tennis.
U Mumba’s impressive performance included Bardet’s victory over Ricardo Walther and Kutumbale’s win against Yangzi Liu. The team’s mixed doubles success with Manush and Hursey further solidified their lead. Manush’s win over Thakkar extended U Mumba’s winning streak to 11 games before Thakkar halted it. Hursey then secured the victory with a win over Sayali Wani, setting new records in the competition.
Anusha received the Match IQ and Indian Player of the Tie awards, Bardet was named the Foreign Player of the Tie, and Manush Shah won the Bisleri Shot of the Tie award. In another match, Ahmedabad’s early control led to a victory over Pune, with Sofia Polcanova and Manika Batra delivering standout performances. The day also featured the UTT Juniors competition, where Dabang Delhi TTC and U Mumba TT advanced to the final.
