In a significant move to bolster tourism and strengthen bilateral ties, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expanded its visa-on-arrival facility for Indian nationals. Effective February 13, 2025, Indian passport holders with valid visas, residence permits, or Green Cards from six additional countries—Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Korea—are now eligible for visa-on-arrival access in the UAE. This development aims to streamline travel for Indian citizens, offering them enhanced opportunities for tourism, business, and extended stays in the UAE.

Expanded Eligibility Criteria

Prior to this expansion, the UAE’s visa-on-arrival facility was limited to Indian nationals possessing valid visas or residence permits from the United States, United Kingdom, or European Union member countries. The inclusion of the six new countries significantly broadens the scope, allowing a larger segment of Indian travelers to benefit from this convenient entry option.

To qualify for the visa-on-arrival, Indian nationals must:

  • Hold a valid passport: The passport should have a minimum validity of six months from the date of arrival in the UAE.
  • Possess a valid visa or residence permit: This includes visas, residence permits, or Green Cards from the United States, United Kingdom, European Union member states, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, or South Korea.

It’s essential that all supporting documents are current and valid for at least six months from the expected date of arrival in the UAE.

Visa Categories and Fees

The UAE offers multiple visa-on-arrival options to cater to the diverse needs of travelers:

  • 14-Day Single Entry Visa: This visa allows a stay of up to 14 days and is available for a fee of AED 100 (approximately USD 27).
  • 14-Day Extension: Travelers wishing to extend their stay can apply for an additional 14 days for a fee of AED 250 (approximately USD 68).
  • 60-Day Visa: For those planning a more extended visit, a 60-day visa is available at a cost of AED 250 (approximately USD 68). This visa is non-extendable.

These options provide flexibility for tourists and business travelers, enabling them to choose a visa that best suits their travel plans.

Application Process

The visa-on-arrival process is designed to be straightforward:

  • Arrival at UAE Entry Point: Upon reaching any UAE international airport or entry point, proceed to the immigration counters designated for visa-on-arrival services.
  • Document Verification: Present your valid Indian passport along with the qualifying visa or residence permit. Ensure all documents meet the specified validity requirements.
  • Fee Payment: Pay the applicable visa fee using accepted payment methods.
  • Visa Issuance: After successful verification and payment, the visa will be stamped on your passport, granting you entry into the UAE.

It’s advisable to check with the airline prior to departure to confirm that you meet all visa-on-arrival requirements, ensuring a smooth travel experience.

Implications for Travelers

This policy expansion is poised to have several positive impacts:

  • Increased Tourism: Simplified entry procedures are expected to attract more Indian tourists, contributing to the UAE’s tourism sector.
  • Business Opportunities: Easier access facilitates business travel, fostering economic collaboration between the UAE and India.
  • Family Visits: Indian expatriates residing in the newly included countries can now more easily invite family members to visit them in the UAE.
