The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) disclosed three separate tanker attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, with no casualties reported. The first incident occurred when a tanker was hit by an unidentified projectile, causing a fire near Oman. In the second attack, another tanker suffered structural damage from a projectile. The most recent incident involved a tanker hit by a drone, sustaining minor structural damage.
According to sources, the identities of two vessels are confirmed: a Saudi-flagged crude oil tanker and a Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker. Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps targeted two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz after they disregarded warnings. Following the attacks, vessels from Japan, India, and Western countries altered their course to transit the strait via Iran’s designated route.
Media reports indicated that a Qatari LNG tanker and a Saudi crude oil tanker were damaged near the strait due to the missile attacks. The Qatari vessel, Al Rekayyat, issued distress signals after being struck. Qatar condemned the attack, labeling it a breach of international law and a menace to global maritime navigation and energy security. Qatar urged Iran to halt such actions and held them accountable for the attack and its consequences.
