Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was greeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. Guterres participated in a banquet hosted by PM Modi for the summit’s high-level attendees, as confirmed by his Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.
During his address at the summit the following day, Guterres will recognize India’s pivotal role in leading discussions on ensuring the inclusivity of AI, as stated by Dujarric. He will emphasize the importance of making AI accessible, beneficial, and safe for everyone.
Guterres is set to highlight the significance of involving diverse voices in shaping the future of AI, moving away from the influence of a select few countries or individuals, according to Dujarric. Both Guterres and PM Modi share a common vision for a more inclusive global AI landscape.
The summit aims to guarantee that AI advancements contribute to the well-being and happiness of all individuals, aligning with PM Modi’s vision for leveraging Artificial Intelligence for human-centered progress. Over 35,000 attendees from 100+ countries, including 20 prime ministers or presidents and at least 45 foreign ministers, are present at the summit.
Leaders such as Presidents Emmanuel Macron of France, Pedro Sanchez Perez-Castejon of Spain, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan are among the distinguished participants. Guterres is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with leaders and ministers in attendance.
Tech industry leaders like Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani are also present at the summit. In a recent news conference, Guterres commended India for taking the lead in organizing summits aimed at shaping the future direction of AI.
