The UN Security Council has expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in Sudan, particularly in the Kordofan and Darfur states. They have called on all conflicting parties to cease hostilities immediately. The Security Council strongly denounced the repeated drone attacks on civilians, civilian infrastructure, and humanitarian workers, emphasizing that such actions could amount to war crimes.
The Council also criticized the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces for their assaults on civilians, arbitrary detentions, and conflict-related sexual violence. They demanded accountability for these violations. Additionally, the Security Council highlighted the issue of conflict-induced famine and extreme food insecurity, stressing the need for safe and unimpeded humanitarian access and the protection of civilians.
Furthermore, the Council welcomed the agreement on a humanitarian truce aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire and de-escalating the situation in Sudan. They emphasized the importance of supporting a civilian-led transitional period to fulfill the Sudanese people’s aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous future. The Security Council urged all UN member states to refrain from external interference that could exacerbate conflict and instability, emphasizing the importance of upholding international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
